22 eneloop limited editions ever made, scroll down for the complete list.
From 2009 Eneloop line-up included these special edition colored Eneloops. All of them are the standard version. There are no special edition in the Lite, Plus or Pro version! If you find anything that is not mentioned here, please let me know on the eneloop101 facebook page or send me an email.
Limited editions are numbered
Every special edition eneloop battery is numbered. On the side of the battery you can see a small square box with a number in it. When there are 8 unique designs, each battery will be numbered between 1-8. If there are only 4 different types, you will see 1-4. These are different from some colored eneloops being sold in the US, which are named colored Eneloops, and sometimes are even referred to as limited editions, but are not.
Easy to match sets of batteries
Some people used to write something (like a letter or a number) on each battery to know what batteries belonged together.
This is done because it is not recommended to mix old with new batteries, because this can result in a damaged (reverse-charged) battery! With the limited edition, you don’t have to do this anymore. Just put the same colors or designs together with a certain device! Photographers in particular have been happy with the limited editions.

Limited editions made in Japan
Since the availability of 2nd generation eneloops, Sanyo started producing limited edition wrappers in 2009. If you head to the Eneloop Prototype page, you can even see special edition wrappers possibly from 2007 which never made it into production. The first part of the following list consists of batteries made in Japan. Although not all batteries were produced in Japan, at the bottom of this page you will be able to see specials made in China as well.
